Boy, I’m thirsty!

About two nights ago, Raswan and I ran out of programs to watch.  We decided to start watching "24" which everyone seems to rave about.  I’m always hesitant to add a new show to my list of current favorites, because if it’s good, I must devour every episode I can get my hands on.  This [...]

No lawnmower needed

The sun is out, the birds are singing, and it’s a good day to cut grass…  by hand. Ajummas started at the top of the library, and worked their way down.  I can’t belive they cut the university’s grass by hand, with knives.  Old Korean women are a strong bunch.Posing with the cherry blossoms at [...]

Renee’s 2nd degree

Congratulations to my friend Renee for finishing her practicum and education degree yesterday in Edmonton, Canada. In her own words, "Now I am a 27 year old woman with 2 bachelor degrees and no place to call her home". Time sure flies…  This picture was taken four years ago during the 2002 World Cup in [...]

Chicken and Beer

Yesterday was the first day of student presentations, which will last one week.  My freshman students have to give a 3 minute speaking presentation about themselves.  So far, I’ve had a student sing, and one demonstrate taekwondo.  The following week, are midterm tests, so we won’t be teaching that week either.  To celebrate the beginning [...]

Lao New Year 2549

My cousin in Laos sent this picture to me. Happy Lao New Year 2549! Lao New Year is derived from the lunar calendar.  The Lao, Thai, Khmers and Myanmarese, who believe in the lunar system, celebrate New Year during this time.  There is also a water festival that happens in Buddhist "Therevada" countries, like the [...]
