Korea lost to Switzerland early this morning. Four years from now, I bet we won’t be seeing shirts with "2002 Again Corea". Thank god. I think what Korea did in 2002 was amazing, but replaying the same soccer games over, and over, and over again was getting old. The party is over… boo hoo hoo.
The bitching by Koreans is well under way. The name calling has begun (Fucking Swiss). Ahh, the memories. Remember when Koreans used to call us that during the Ohno speed skating incident? "Fucking USA"… I remember when 10 year olds would say that to me. To quote Robert from The Marmot’s Hole: Run, fondue eaters! Run for your lives!

Why can’t you just take it as a good fun?
You know when Korea scored the goal against France last week, I did the Ohno speed skating dance to a TV reporter and he took my photo. I don’t know if it ever got published.
But I hold no grunt against Ohno ever, I didn’t even care about the winter games, in fact I am not even Korean. But I was the one who did the speed skating dance to a TV reporter when Korea scored the equalizer against France last week.

I am not really dissapointed with the outcome. Before the start of the world cup, I had expected Korea to defeat France and Togo in order to make last 16. But when Korea only manage a draw with France, I pretty much knew the game is over. Swiss is a very strong team off late demonstrated by their convincing victory over China a week before the start of the world cup. While France only mananged a draw until the 90th minute with China. Yet, Korea’s draw with France was quite ‘lucky’ and that kind of play is not enough to tackle the Swiss. However, I was surprised that the Koreans played very well against the Swiss but lacked the finishing touches.
I told my Korean friends that the next world cup we must make sure both Korean teams qualify for the finals. If the North Koreans had qualified this world cup which they nearly did, we would be celebrating twice the fun. We would all have 2 teams to cheer on. If one team goes down, we will still have another one to shoulder the task. Of course, we must also make sure that the North Korean regime does not disintegrate before the next world cup.
In the U-17 world cup, North Korea(and China) made it to the last 8. So there is glimpse that they will do better in the coming years.
Go Taeguk Warriors and Cholima!

“”Fucking USA”… I remember when 10 year olds would say that to me.”
Koreans are a bit narrow minded in this respect. They only get angry when they are cheated.
USA tradition in sports cheating does not only harm the Koreans but the whole world and itself. For instance, we now know that Carl Lewis the king of track and field was tested positive for banned substance during the 1988 olympic trials yet he was allowed to compete and his test results kept secret from the public for many years. (We cannot take back his gold medals now because of statute of limitations)

Wonder how Ben Johnson would feel if he knew this. He got caught too, but just at the wrong time.
And today, we see that there is new evidence about Lance Armstrong use of enhancing performance drugs.

The more times Americans cheat in sports, the more they are eventually robbing themselves. American athletes that I once admire are now in doubt for I am now questioning if they too took drugs but maybe were just lucky that they were never caught, or maybe they were caught but the sporting body simply kept it a secret from public knowledge. Today, when an American athlete does well, you don’t really know if he is truly good or he had some ‘help’.
Btw, many people like to accuse Koreans of bribing the officials during the 2002 world cup. That’s totally absurd. Korea has little to gain other than national glory for making it into the final 4. The people who has the most to gain from a Korean victory are the betting houses who structured their betting odds in wrong anticipation of the bettors. For example, when Korea plays Italy, and all the bettors are betting for Italy to win, the bet houses will win most the game if Korea wins because the bettors will all lose their money.
I really got stung this time by that Italy-USA game. They need to investigate that game. An own goal??? I lost $100 on that one. Bet, the bet houses are laughing their way to the bank on that game.
