A walk in the Rose Garden

Photos, Portland

I went downtown today to buy a bag and another lens for my camera.  I was itching to try out my new purchase, so I headed to the Portland Rose Garden near Washington Park.  It had been awhile since I’d been to the garden, and I took a wrong turn on Vista Road.  It turned out to be a good thing that I did, because I managed to get this beautiful shot of Portland.  Near the right hand side, you can see Mt. Hood.

I also learned recently why Portland has the nickname of “Stumptown“.  It’s due to Oregon’s logging history, and the fact that the buildings in Portland aren’t as tall as other cities.  Some say the city planned it that way, so as not to block the views of the mountains.  Portland is also known as the “Rose City” and hosts a Rose parade and Rose Festival every spring.

The roses aren’t in their prime during the fall, but there were some nice blooms.

Reds.  Some berries and a little boot on top of a fence post.

 Me

Since I was alone, I turned the camera on myself to do some test shots.  So, just in case anyone’s wondering what I look like lately… Still the same, I think.

Great shots! So what lens did you get? The 50mm 1.8?

Nice self portrait - your eyes are quite photogenic!

    Thanks!~

All the pictures here, except for the Portland view, “boot”, and sepia were shot with the 50mm 1.8. You’re right, it’s a really clear lens. It’s a bit awkward at first, knowing you can’t zoom, but worth it for the price.

You should throw in a self portrait on your blog once in awhile!
