I’ve been a bad blogger. Every day, I think about what I could/should be writing about, but I’ve been pressed for time lately. Things have eased up a bit, so tomorrow is my day for updates. What I’ve been up to:
- voted today
- studied for my midterms last week. Found out tonight I got an “A” on my Linguistics test. Yay me!
- helped dog-sit two adorable dogs, with one having “separation disorder”
- attended Oregon’s TESOL conference
- picked ALL the Asian pears off the trees
- went shoe shopping - bought some boots
- trying to keep dry from the rainstorms
- not surprised that Britney filed for divorce from KFed. (He didn’t even know she was leaving him!)
- reading book 3 of the graphic novel, “Y: The Last Man”
- catching up on shows
- and generally taking random phots.
I was riding home on the MAX tonight (Portland’s light rail), and sat in the same car as a 19 year old girl that was tripping out. She was definitely drunk, but she must have been on something else. She was talking really loud to herself and anyone who would listen, spitting on the floor, crawling on the floor, proclaiming her love of C.J. and just being “crazy”. MAX officials finally got her off the train and declared it “out of service” due to the “bio-hazard” she caused. That’s public transportation for ya’.

Hey! I love “Y: The Last Man.” Glad you’re reading it in trades–when I was in Cali I hated waiting for each issue to come out. Vaughn is a master with cliffhangers.
Do you read any other comics?

No, I don’t read any other comics, but am willing to try some more out. Any suggestions for a newbie?

Vaughn writes about teenagers in “Runaways,” but that’s a good, PG-13 book . . . and no oversized boobs or skanks that usually turn me off from mainstream comics.
My obsessions are currently “Y: The Last Man,” “Preacher,” “Fables” and “The Walking Dead.” The first three are published by Vertigo, and they’re all super, with out-of-this-world-but-COULD-happen plots and characters that are so flawed they’re delicious. Check the reviews on Amazon, I can’t do them justice here.
And as far as “real life” graphic novels go, you can’t go wrong with Craig Thompson. His autobiographical “Blankets” is 500 pages long, but it was so gorgeous and heartfelt that I read it all in one night. That book won loads of awards and fans.
(He’s also from Oregon, if that puts him in your favor.)
I know you’re busy with school and all, but if you ever just need to chill out, I hope you’ll consider these awesome reads.
