Thanksgiving was fantastic. There was so much tasty, tasty food for our group of 12 people. I slept-in yesterday, and woke up to find that one of the three pumpkin pies was already half eaten! It seemed that Ellen and Rose couldn’t wait to start Thanksgiving dinner early. Not to be outdone, I also had a small slice of pie, even though I really don’t like pumpkin pie that much. To my surprise, it was so good that I had to get another piece for my morning coffee. The morning was spent lounging around and looking through shopping ads. On the other hand, Ras was up in the attic going through years of boxes that were sent from Korea. He even found a box he thought was lost in the mail, that contained a leather jacket and bag from when we visited in Venice, Italy. We also opened a box from Bali, which contained purchases we made in February. Two of the Balinese puppets in the box were put on display during dinner that night.
This morning, we got up at 6:00 am after going to bed at 2:00 am, due to after meal games of Poker, Hearts, and 7 Up while consuming lots of wine. The reason for getting up so early, was to drive back to Portland because Ras had to catch a flight to Florida. He’ll be there visiting his dad for ten days. As an early Christmas gift, Ras also bought his sister, Rose, a ticket too. She has finals to study for, and will meet him next weekend.
Today is known as Black Friday, aka, the “busiest shopping day of the year”, even though it really isn’t. I figured I’d be a good American and help the economy out by dropping by a few stores. I didn’t plan on going all-out shopping, but stopped in at Office Depot and Radioshack on my way home. The crowds had already diminished by 9:00am because all the “door-busters” were long gone. I didn’t make out with any super steals, but picked up things I had been meaning to get anyway - a USB hub, a 24 in 1 memory card reader, and a spindle of DVDs. Boring, I know. Still, standing in line at 5am to buy a 50 inch Plasma TV at Best Buy for $1600 is NOT my idea of fun. Best Buy even has an employee boot camp for this day. I’m doing most of my holiday shopping online, like I do almost every year.
I’ll post more Thankssiving pictures later today. Right now, I’d like to go take a nap. If you’re an American, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
