Jack Bauer is a bad ass

He is. You can’t deny it… I’m a couple episodes away from being caught up to this season’s “24.” Ras and I watched Season 5 in the last two weeks. I still haven’t watched Season 3 yet, but will do so in the next couple of months. Even without watching one whole season, I hold steadfast to the following opinions and observations:

  1. Jack Bauer is a bad ass. (He can do practically anything. He can kill like a normal person breathes.)
  2. Jack Bauer is almost always right. (Everyone questions Jack when he goes off protocol, but 95% of the time, he’s right. Why do they even question him?)
  3. “Protocol.” If I ever wanted to work for the US government, I’d need to quickly and effectively be able to use this word at least five time a day at work. (e.g. “Jack, we can’t do that. It’s against protocol.”)
  4. I really like the characters – Jack, Tony Almeda, Mike Novick, Aaron Pierce and David Palmer.
  5. I really didn’t like – Jack’s (dead) wife Teri and his daughter Kim. (They were so weak and whiny. It pained me to watch the first season because I wanted to slap them every time they were on screen.)
  6. As you can see, I like the “strong” characters, ones that can take a beating from terrorists and still come out fighting. Teri and Kim? They shrieked and jumped from the sound of gunfire.
  7. I kinda don’t like – Audrey Raines. (Jack is too good for her. Plus, her face is too long and bony.)
  8. I have a love/hate relationship with Chloe O’Brian. I like that she’s smart, but then she ruins it with her signature constipated/smirk. (See picture below.)
  9. If I were a CTU field agent, I *know* I couldn’t kill someone by biting their neck (season 6), but kill someone with a gun and silencer? No problemo.
  10. Oh yeah, did I mention that Jack Bauer is a bad ass? (Tortured by the Chinese for 20 months and not once uttering a single world? Do we really need to discuss it any further?)

None of these are the “real” constipated/smirk. I’ll be watching for it this season though. It’s where she looks down (to make sure no one can see she’s doing something out of protocol for Jack), scrunches her forehead because thinking so hard hurts, and looks left and right quickly.

    24 rules.

Check this site out, it has a year-by-year, episode-by-episode listing of who Jack has killed.

Here’s a link to a New Yorker article about 24 and Joel Surnow–the man behind 24, The Equalizer, La Femme Nikita, etc.

It was very difficult to read while watching this week’s awesome 2-hour episode. Now I have to finish watching Heroes and head out to the hagwon.

We have things in common… besides of both being teachers in a Asian ‘foreign’ land (I’m in the Papaya salad land), we both also love to hate Jack… I’m getting so addicted that I kind of think that my boyfriend looks like Almeida (by far my favorite!)

You site is great! keep it up!
    Cheers

Well, what’s really bad, is that I had a dream with characters from “24″ in it. Plus, when I watch a show and see a computer tech not being able to break into a computer system I find myself saying out loud, “I bet Chloe O’Brian could do it.”

I love 24, but I “love” its forerunner more — Le Femme Nikita starring Peta Wilson. A female version of Jack Bauer. She is a little wooden, but the supporting cast is top notch, including her father, The Equalizer’s Edward Woodward. Created by 24′s creators, and starring many of the same people. See where the inspiration for 24, Jack, Chloe, et al, came from. If you need more 24, go to Amazon.com and find some used dvds of the series. There were five seasons shot in Canada. Alias also took a page from Nikita. Take a look. You won’t be disappointed.

Even though I haven’t seen Alias, I know the premise and can see how it has elements of 24 in it.

As for Le Femme Nikita, I’ve also heard a little about it. A female Jack Bauer… that’d definitely be worth a watch. I’ll try to get my hands on the first season. Thanks for the recommendation!
