Spiderman 3 came out in Korea today, May 1st. Ras and I talked about seeing it after work today, but was afraid the theater would be too busy. Instead, we’re going to see it tomorrow morning around 10 am at the CGV in Anyang. I honestly have low expectations for the movie. The first Spiderman was good, whle the second one left me disappointed - too much big-budgeted action and not enough story.Korea Pop Wars wrote what I’m expecting to experience tomorrow:
It was basically a two-hour talkathon soap opera, with a 15-minute action finish. Now, if the talky stuff was well-done and interesting, I would have been fine with it. But S3 was no Eric Rohmer film. Or a Tarantino. Or anything. It was comic-book deep (and I don’t mean Alan Moore), with endless cliches and silly melodrama.
The only reason I’m seeing it tomorrow is because we received free movie tickets. You have to check out the Hollywood blockbusters once in awhile, especially when there’s so much hype for it. I’ll let you know tomorrow what I thought of it.
*** Update ***
I saw the movie this morning. It wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t that good either. The entire movie was pretty predictable - from the “bad” Spiderman trying to overtake Peter, to Peter losing MJ and winning her back, to the forgiveness and death scenes at the end. After 2 hours into into the movie, I knew there was still one major fight scene left. Still, I was wondering to myself in the dark, “This movie isn’t over yet?” Overall, I guess Spiderman 3 is worth seeing once for the hype factor, but not a second time.

like you mentioned, this ’spiderman3′ was not that good enough. I already saw the movie yesterday morning, only one thing I found out was all the expectations I had last three years were in vain -_-;

I’ve read a few of the early critiques of the new Spider-Man 3 movie, and the Korean Pop Wars’ one in particular is so very negative. I even expected to walk into one of the worst films in the history of film-kind, definitely not a film that focuses on such issues as humility, forgiveness, redemption, friendship, hope, and love in a time on this planet when they are so greatly needed. I was never led to believe that this film would be on par with the likes of Gone With the Wind, Citizen Kane, or The Big Sleep, but it was a solid couple of hours of diversion from my stress-filled and media overloaded world. Plus, the photography was absolutely stunning and the special effects were awesome. This is probably the last film of the series with the original cast, and with over 45 years of thousands of comic issues of back story and only a little over two hours of run time, something did have to give. Overall, Mr. Raimi did an admirable job given the amount of material in which he had to choose from without alienating the core comic fans (me included) while appealing to those with limited or no knowledge of the web head.
Bloggers’ words can convince others not to see something that may actually inspire them to overcome their insecurities, or how to learn from their mistakes and overcome them, or help them to believe that there is more to this world and we all aren’t all down here struggling in vain. “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.” Too bad every budding Shakespeare with a blog doesn’t take to heart the real meaning of Spidey’s words a little more.
BTW, check out Spider-Girl. Peter’s daughter deserves her own movie franchise. May “May Day” Parker is her father’s daughter.

Of course I\’m not expecting a Citizen Kane with a comic book movie, but movies like these have too much action and not enough story. When there\’s so many computer generated scenes, it feels too much like a cartoon.
I liked the personal conflicts and story lines of Batman Begins, Blade, Sin City, and X-Men much more. Even the first Spiderman was really good - getting a sense of how a young Peter Parker developed into the great superhero that he is. With so many sequels nowadays, movies studios are just out to make money and don\’t actually have a solid story to tell.

i enjoyed it. i thought it was pretty awesome but then again i’m a spiderman fan and i’m biased. my expectations may not have been as high but i was still excited. i will have to say that i did enjoy spiderman 2 more. but the story did follow the comic very well. the only thing that kind of bothered me was that it seemed he lost his “spider-sense” during most of the movie. i also enjoyed the fact that stan lee (one of the creators of spiderman actually had lines in the movie). anyway, i’ll be buying the dvd this winter and other merchandise when i go home this summer.
