This photo essay from Time Magazine is SO interesting. It’s from the book, Hungry Planet: What the World Eats.

The most amount of money spent for a week of food - Germany ($500)

The least amount of money spent for a week of food - Chad ($1.23)

How much do you think your household spends a week for food?  In my two person household in Korea, I’d made a rough estimate of $100 a week.  That includes eating out two nights a week at Korean restaurants.

See the rest of the pictures after the jump.

The rest are arranged from the cheapest to the most expensive.

The thing that surprises me about most of these pictures is that the majority of people seem to be eting quite healthily and using fresh ingredients rather than just buying ready-made meals. Certainly, my observation from shopping in the UK is that people would rather go with convenience than cost and taste.

Actally in the UK there is a programme called “You are what you eat” where they basically try and get obese people to chnage their diet and they do the same thing by preparing a table laden with a weeks worth of their diet. It’s pretty sickening the crap (and the volume of said crap) that they eat.
