Actually, this summer has been chock full of new programs. As an Emmy voter, quite a few of my votes will go to the likes of Mad Men, The Kill Point, The Company, Burn Notice, Damages, My Boys, The 4400, and Psych. And, if you haven’t seen Jekyll, you haven’t seen the best show of the year.

However, Rescue Me, The Dead Zone, Monk, and Entourage have been a little sub-par this summer.

You’re an Emmy voter? That’s pretty big.

I haven’t watched much TV this summer, but Ras has been watching Mad Men, Burn Notice, Damages and Kill Point. We also watched Jekyll this month.

Hopefully there’ll be some good new shows this fall. My favorite so far is “Flight of the Concords.”

I used to be a mid-level TV executive for a major network for three years during grad school in L.A. I started as an unpaid intern, and one day later (after working for 16 hours and missing my classes), I was an entry-level executive. Growing up on a farm in South Texas, I knew what hard work was all about, and I loved TV. The others, Ivy league, L.A./East Coast, slacker, and surfer dudes, didn’t cotton to my working double and triple their workloads. I’m still 3 hours shy of my MFA due to the insanity that is the biz, but I got out when my boss was about to be let go. Anyway, as much as I love TV, the lifestyle was a killer to someone of my small town upbringing. Sadly, many of the other people who are Emmy voters aren’t lovers, or watchers, of television.

If you get a chance, watch The Company. The best TV I’ve seen since the first season of 24. Better than any film I’ve seen in years. Maybe because it is true, and I lived through part of it. Chris O’Donnell, Alfred Molina, and Michael Keaton all deserve Emmys for their excellent work.

So, how have you and Ras been keeping up with U.S. programming? Downloads, or slinging via Slingbox or Hava?

It’s funny, my old intern just e-mailed me a job offer. He is now a V.P., and needs good people who get the job done and who love TV. There are big bucks, but it means 80-100 hours a week, the traffic jams of L.A., and constant traveling to N.Y.C., S.F., Dallas, and Miami. Not to mention crazy rents, having to drive again, and dealing with nitwits. I’m sticking around here for a while longer. Plus, I have a two week vacation back home starting on Sunday. Time to get a couple of 500 gig hard drives to store my shows on. They are a 100 bucks a piece at Fry’s and Best Buy nowadays. And, quite small to boot.
