Yesterday, Ras and I went to Namdaeumun to go lens shopping for my Canon 400D (Rebel XTi). I picked up this bad boy. Now I feel like I’m entering the realm of the big boys, but not truly knowing what I’m doing yet.

I’m excited to use it on my travels this winter, even though I’m not sure where that will be yet. Brandon has also used this lens, and I hope my photos turn out half as good as the ones he’s taken in Indonesia.
By the way, if anyone’s looking for Halloween gear, you can find plenty here. [Click picture for a larger version.]

Very nice! I tested out my uncle’s 10-22mm and I loved it. The USM focus was fast and responsive. I recently picked up a new lens myself, the 70-300mm IS USM (non DO) off eBay…I’ll have to post about that later!

It’ll be interesting to see your review of the 70-300mm. I’m hesitant to buy a lens I haven’t tried before. I rented the 10-22mm while I was home, so I got a chance to play around with it for a week. I wish I knew of cheap places to rent lenses in Korea.

That lens is the sweetest ever. I picked it up for street fashion photography a few months ago and haven’t looked back.
I always shot with the 20mm or 24mm in my film days, but the 1.6 magnification with digital makes my wides very not so wide. I heard about the Canon EF lenses, and upon closer inspection, learned that it’s actually the same build quality as an L-series lens, but since it’s a special EF-S lens designed for the lower-end cameras, it can’t be classed as “L.”
Hence, it being affordable and one of the best purchases you can make in the lens arena.
So it can get me out to 16mm (10mm on the lens, 16mm for the full-frame equivalent) and get some pretty good pics.
One thing, though – I noticed your flash coverage was limited in some of your pics – you should know that your onboard flash will only cover the frame out to 17mm on the lens (27mm full-frame); so if you get an external Canon flash, you’ll get the wider coverage you need.
You’ll also be able to diffuse your flash so it doesn’t have that harsh look, but be soft and even.
On our site, almost without exception, I use flash. But because of the diffuser, oftentimes, you can scarcely tell.
Just a tip from a fellow 10-22 owner and street shooter.

FeetManSeoul-
Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate it! I’m lovin’ the lens, and will have to look into that external flash.
