Journal Entry: Nov. 30, 2007

My student won our university’s speech contest – that was pretty cool.  Congratulations to Mi-kyung! We also had another Flea Market for the children’s program.  I think the kids had a really good time.  I lucked out and got a really good bunch of kids.

What I did today

I’ve been wanting to do some more creative things lately, but always seem to have more pressing matters.  Today I forced myself to do something.  This is a scan from my journal.  It was fun… gotta do more of this. Note to self: Attempt to write straighter next time.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Last night we had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. It was sort of a last minute idea when plans to go to Brad’s this weekend for turkey fell through. — Hey, why don’t we just buy a turkey ourselves? Because it’ll probably just be the two of us. — So? Leftover turkey is always good. You’re [...]

Yoido Full Gospel Church

Lost Nomad has a link to this Economist article about “megachurches”, with the largest being Yoido Full Gospel Church, with 830,000 members. Coincidently, the university I work for was founded by the Full Gospel Church, and (Pastor) David Cho is a graduate. His wife is our university’s president. At first, I thought it would be [...]

We’re knee deep into Fall

On Friday, Peter asked me what I had planned for the weekend.  “You guys are usually doing something or another, right?”  Yeah, that’s usually the case.  This past weekend, though, was 48 hours of pure, unadulterated lounging.  It involved sleeping in, strong coffee, internet surfing, movie watching, bacon pizza, wine sipping, nibbling on persimmons and [...]

New E-2 Regulations

Due to the recent case of the pedophile that worked in Korea, who then fled to Thailand, new regulations loom for current English teachers in Korea.  If the Ministry of Justice follows through, in addition to criminal and medical checks, we’ll need to fly back to our home countries to renew our visas!  Yes, you [...]
