A big group of us (10+) will be at the Kabinett Halloween costume party tonight.  Unfortunately, I won’t be dressing up as a slutty witch, a slutty nurse, or a slutty school girl.  Slutty costumes are SO 1980′s-2007.  Instead, I’ll be going as a cute-but-not-overtly-sexy pirate.  The only regret I have is that my costume is a dress.  It’s going to be cold tonight and I wish I was covered up more.  It should be fun times!

The story is this: some douchebag named Dimitri calls the object of his obsession affection, elegant Olga, after a brief, two-minute encounter in a San Francisco bar. Olga gives Dimitri her business card, he calls, she fails to return his call in a timely manner, hilarity ensues.

Just in case you were wondering, Dimitri is a real person.  (Thank you Google.)  He lives in Toronto and lost his medical license after being criminally convicted of sexually assaulting female patients.  Read more about him here and this is what he looks like.

I don’t know about you, but it looks like a first year design student thought up this concept.  Somebody was a little too happy with the Photoshop brushes, wheren’t they?  Hey, what are some ways to make this a cool hip-hop album?  I know!  Let’s throw in the words “U Go Girl” and “Blaze Up.”  Cause I’m sure that’s something Rihanna would have on her album.

Hey, I’m not totally hating on her.  She’s got a great body and is beautiful, but… It’s Hyorish?  The name is almost as bad as her first hit, “Just One Ten Minutes.”  English speakers were cringing everywhere.

You don’t call people on the phone if you have nothing to say to them. You don’t send your friends e-mails that are completely blank. So why would you poke someone using Facebook? It makes so much more sense to just send a message or, better yet, don’t do anything. If poking was a real-life conversation, this is how it would go:
Some jack-off: Hey, I’m looking at Facebook.
Us: Oh. Cool, I guess.
Some jack-off: Yep.
Us: Did you have anything to tell us, or…
Some jack-off: Nope, just poking you.
Us: Fuck this, we’re going to lurk professional sports cheerleaders that are well above the legal age of consent (let’s see you take issue with that, lawyers) on MySpace.

I got a chance to sleep in and woke up at 8:00, but continued to stay in bed and read for an hour and a half. Have a breakfast of Eggos, bacon, and hot chai, I’m getting caught up on blogs and such.

TIME: Is Facebook’s popularity connected to its focus on authenticity? On your site, misrepresentation of your real self is a violation of company policy.

Zuckerberg: That’s the critical part of it. Our whole theory is that people have real connections in the world. People communicate most naturally and effectively with their friends and the people around them. What we figured is that if we could model what those connections were, [we could] provide that information to a set of applications through which people want to share information, photos or videos or events. But that only works if those relationships are real.

TIME: With more than 40 billion page views every month, Facebook is the sixth most trafficked site in the U.S., and the top photo-sharing site. What are your international expansion plans?

Zuckerberg: Right now a lot of our growth is happening internationally. We have more than 10% or 15% of the population of Canada on the site. The U.K. has a huge user base.

This month, I’ve been watching a lot of movies.  Two weeks ago, I added the “Flixster” application on Facebook, and am going to list and review all the movies I see from this year on.  So far, all 16 movies listed have been everything I’ve watched since arriving in Oregon for the summer.  The best so far were: Born into Brothels, Transformers, and Hard Candy.  The list of movies to see in the next two days include: Ghost World, Grave of the Fireflies, and The Devil Wears Prada.  At the end of the year, it’ll be interesting to see how many movies I’ve seen from the second half of 2007.  Yesterday, brother rented a Japanese movie that came out this week called, “Yo-Yo Girl Cop.”  Besides the funny title, I can’t decide whether I want to watch it or not.
