Allison and I have been trying to coordinate a Skype chat for the last week, and finally managed to do so today. Among many things, we talked about school, Korea, plans for the future, moving, mutual friends, the Flicker in Seoul group, Heath Ledger’s death, wigs, dakalbi, The Grammys, and our mutual love for Friday Night Lights. We both agree that Riggins and Lyla should be together, and I divulged that upon first seeing Landry on that show, I referred to him as Matt Damon’s ugly brother. Oh, stop it. He has definitely grown on me since! For those in the States, stream full episodes of TV shows (including FNL) at Fancast.

We also talked about our love of Juno’s soundtrack. Here are some songs from the album.

Barry Louis Polisar - All I Want Is You

The Moldy Peaches - Anyone Else But You

The Ansy Pants - Tree Hugger

I don’t know much about football, and I’m not a huge football fan.  When we decided to go to the Superbowl party at the VFW, Ras asked me if I even knew who was playing.  My response:  New England and… um… Arizona??  Still, I love Friday Night Lights, and hope it doesn’t get canceled.  I will embarrassingly admit, I fist pumped during the final game when the Panthers went to State.  Luckily, I was watching it by myself in the living room.

This is the second online petition I’ve ever signed.  (The first one was to save internet radio, and I actually got an email from my congressman.)

More information and links at Pop Candy.  You can also stream all episodes from both seasons at NBC.com.  Unfortunately, this only works for viewers in the U.S.

I had a steak dinner tonight and watched this interesting report from 60 Minutes about blue fin tuna. Embedding has been disabled, so check out the videos on YouTube.

Ras’ KTX train from Pusan arrived yesterday around 4:45pm. Greg picked him up from Seoul Station and drove him home in about half an hour. We had some wine and waited for Jenay and Dave to come over. Greg’s been thinking about buy a new TV too, and was sold after watching the first part of Transformers on the big TV with the surround sound. At the same time, I also started downloading the 1.1GB HD season premiere of Lost (4×01).

The five of us went out to dinner and hoped the download would finish by the time we got back. We went to my favorite bosaam restaurant, which is a two minute walk from my apartment. This is the same restaurant we went to with Bart on a different occasion.

There were a lot of stories told throughout the meal, with dongdongju flowing freely.

A: How did you manage to smoke weed every day when you were 12 years old!?!

B: I had a paper route.

Greg also celebrated 100 day of not smoking cigarettes, so I gave him a 100 won coin to commemorate it. One of the reasons he quit was because his wife recently gave birth to a new baby girl - Jina.

After dinner, we went back to our place to watch Lost. The four of us were so excited (Jenay had never seen the show before). It’s been on hiatus for, like, five years. One of my readers, John from Daejeon, has been urging me to apply for The Amazing Race: Asia for at least six months. He even sent me The Amazing Race and The Amazing Race: Asia DVDs from the previous seasons. I had always thought it would be a fun thing to do, and was actually thinking about it during my trip to the Philippines. Whenever we were at airports, I would urge Ras to pretend that we were in the Amazing Race.

  • Me: Ok… so what would we do if we were on the Amazing Race right now?
  • Ras: But we’re not on the Amazing Race.
  • Me: I know, but let’s pretend we are. Here’s what I would do. I’d ask the counter person for seats near the front of the plane. That way, when the plane landed, we’d be closer to the exit, therefore being ahead of the other teams! Pee before the plane makes its descent so you don’t waste time in the airport bathrooms. Then we should…

As much as I would love to apply for the show, I don’t think I can. In my university contract, I am obligated to teach a 1 month summer or winter camp. Since I’m going home next winter, I have to teach a summer camp. Unfortunately, this is when the show will film.

“If selected as a participant, you and your teammate must be willing to travel to numerous
locations around the world lasting approximately 20 to 35 days starting sometime mid year of 2008.”

Since I won’t be done with the camp until the end of July, I’m out of luck. We would have made an awesome team. I’m pushing Raswan to find another partner and apply anyway. Good luck to John, who will also be trying to get on the show!
