Yesterday was a relatively sunny day, so you can imagine my surpise when I woke up this morning, pulled up the blinds, and saw a light dusting of snow. Just the other day, people were saying that cherry blossoms were starting to bloom in Portland.

Here I was, counting the days until spring arrived. Above is the view from my bedroom. Below is the view from the top of my car.

I had to go out this morning and bring in the garbage and recycling containers. I don’t know what it’s like in other parts of the U.S., but I’m happy to see that recycling roll-carts here are huge (the beige one). It’s about four feet tall with a 60 gallon capacity. So, I could easily fit inside it, if… you know, that’s the kind of thing I liked doing. Unlike recycling from ten years ago, we don’t need to separate things anymore. With the exception of glass, which goes in its own container, everything else can go in there. Paper, cardboard, plastic, or metal can be dumped in unsorted with labels attached. Very easy.

My mom called and woke me up this morning as she went to work at 6:30 am, to tell me that it had snowed and maybe I should borrow my dad’s truck to go to school. I informed her that I don’t drive to school anyway, and take the MAX.

When I finally got out of bed at 9:00, there were still remnants of the light blanket of snow. There was barely any, but it was snow nonetheless.

It has been raining so much in the Northwest lately – rain, rain, and more RAIN (with gusts of wind).

A few times, the rains will stop, and as the wind blows, you can actually see some blue sky behind the gray clouds. I opened my blinds this morning to get some light into my bedroom, and was pleasantly surprised to see this:

It just looks so funny! The tree is pretty tall because the branches in the middle go straight up, but all the fruit is at the bottom. The wind blew all the leaves off.

Then I looked over and saw the Asian pear tree in the corner. It was almost completely bare, except for one fruit. Can you see it?

It’s amazing the difference from 2 1/2 weeks ago.
